I spent a boring Saturday night laying on the couch watching countless episodes of Trading Spaces. Kevin was sick in bed...he had literally been in bed all day. As usual the baby was doing her thing, kicking and flipping, causing me all kinds of strange feelings. From the corner of my eye, I noticed some movement from my belly. I pulled my shirt up a bit and sure enough, I could see every time she gave a kick. This was a new development! I am finding that I am incredibly patient when it comes to things like this. I waited and watched my belly for quite some time and was rewarded a few more times by this visable proof of life inside me.
Last night I tried to include Kevin in this fun. He would watch for a few minutes and then close his eyes to sleep. I would poke at him and tell him to watch. He would dutifully open his eyes and watch until his eyes again grew heavy. He would always miss the movement! Finally, the absurdity of the situation (me laying there with my belly exposed) hit me and I got the giggles which really got my belly to shaking. Kevin gave up on us then. He rolled over and went to sleep. Of course, the baby gave a few good kicks then. Maybe she just doesn't like an audience!

It's A Wonderful Life!
Merry Christmas! We hope everyone had a good holiday. The highlight for us was watching "It's A Wonderful Life" on TV on Christmas Eve. It had snowed and snowed all day and Kevin came home early from work due to the weather. We couldn't go anywhere so we curled on the couch and settled in to watch this holiday classic. Kevin couldn't believe that I had never seen it before. Even harder to believe considering my dog's name is George Bailey. Notice any resemblence??
I also forgot to mention that I posted the latest ultrasound pictures. They came out really good so check them out. Kevin took a "belly shot" of me tonight. If I get really brave, I will post it. He says that I am looking "really pregnant"...and we still have 16 more weeks to go. Yikes!

We celebrated Christmas with my family this weekend. The whole family was together for two days of conversation, food and lots of laughs. Baby Crews even had a gift under the tree from her Aunt Tracy and Uncle Greg. It was a Baby Drowsy doll! This was my favorite doll when I was little. They don't make them anymore but Mattel brought them back out as part of their Classic Collection line. She is adorable! The originals (first appeared in 1964) had pull-strings but this one has been "updated with modern technology so 6 of the original phrases can be heard at the press of her tummy." She will say, "I want a drink of water" or "I go sleep now. Night, night!" Can you tell that I love her and just know that the baby will too. If I let her play with it, that is.

They call the first time you feel the baby move The Quickening . It sounds like a horror movie, doesn't it? But it's actually quite nice. I have been feeling the baby move for several weeks now and I still find it hard to explain. A friend described it as similar to gas bubbles and I would have to agree. This week the movement has been seemingly nonstop and getting harder as the baby gets bigger and stronger. This morning, I took Kevin's hand and made him keep it there. Kevin really doesn't have patience for this type of thing but today I insisted. I wanted to see if he could feel what I was feeling. We waited for several minutes and then a good strong kick right where his hand was! Kevin said that he did feel it and described to me what it felt like. To my disappointment, he was less than enthused but to his credit it was 6:30 am and he really isn't a morning person.

I have been a bad, bad blogger. Please forgive me.
We went to the aforementioned (is this a word??) doctor for our ultrasound last week. It was a great appointment...much better than last time...
We went for our "big" ultrasound the other day. The appointment was at 8:30 am. I truly haven't seen that time of day for some time now. The appointment went well. Kevin was amazed that there was "really something in there". We didn't find out the gender, being too soon to see everything clearly enough. We go again in another month and should get a full report then.
As the appointment went on, I was getting sicker and sicker. The elevator ride down almost got me but I managed to make it to the car. I had to stop Kevin as he pulled out of the parking spot. I opened the car door and threw up. And threw up some more. I thought it was safe to go so he pulled out onto the busy road. I started heaving again. He yelled to open the door. I couldn't! We were traveling at 40 miles per hour at that point. I lost my cookies in the car on my pants and sweater. So much for our celebration breakfast at IHOP!
But as I said, this month was much better. The ultrasound lasted about an hour. The technician showed us all the parts except the ones that we most wanted to see. Baby just would not cooperate. I hope this isn't indication of things to come. At one point, Baby even had it's legs closed and crossed at the ankles. The tech had me roll to one side (I think I mooned Kevin in the process) and then to the other side (believe me, it's not easy rolling from side to side on that small table). The baby still wouldn't open up and show up it's parts.
Finally the doctor came in took over. He informed us that everything looked good and there were no indications of any abnormailities. He kept looking for another ten minutes. The baby was kicking and moving. At one point, Kevin exclaimed, "Hey, the baby just kicked you!" Yea, I kind of felt that Kev.
Then the doctor interrupted, and asked, "Do you want to know the sex?" I thought that was a silly question at that point, but I just said yes. He wrote FEMALE on the screen and said, "It's a girl". My emotions just flooded and tears ran down my cheeks. I was afraid to look at Kevin because I knew he wanted a boy but I glanced over and he smiled at me.
All three of us were looking at the same screen and for the life of me, I can't see how that doctor made heads or tails out of what was up there. That makes me a little nervous and somewhat cautious to trust this man. He did inform us that he hadn't been wrong in the past 9000 scans so I guess I'll take his word for it.
So, all in all, it was a great appointment and we even got to go to IHOP afterward!

We went to the baby doc this week for my monthly appointment. This was Kevin's first visit and he got to meet the doctor who will deliver the baby. The whole appointment took less than twenty minutes. I had to give a urine sample, get weighed (yikes!), get measured (more fun) and we listened to the heart beat. This took the longest as the baby was very uncooperative. Everytime the doctor would find the heartbeat, he or she would give a big kick and move. We chased it several times and finally gave up. There's no doubt that there is an active baby in there.
We go on Friday for the ultrasound where hopefully they will be able to determine the gender. As soon as anyone finds out that I am pregnant, they always ask if we are going to find out the sex. As soon as I let them know that we are, they always ask, "don't you want it to be a surprise?" I figure that I have been waiting five months to know and it will be just as much a surprise now!

There hasn't been much going on this week in the baby department. It makes one realize just how long nine months really is. Actually, time has been going really fast yet I know it will start creeping after the holidays when I am huge and uncomfortable. April is still a long, long way away.
Kevin and I are going to Kansas City tomorow to do some shopping. He wants a particular shirt for his birthday and I am in need of some maternity tops. I am still wearing most of my old clothes and can pass for just heavy but boy, when I put on a maternity shirt, you can really tell that I am pregnant.
While thinking about gift-giving, I asked Kevin what we would get the baby for Christmas next year. Nothing like planning ahead, right?!? He thought for a moment, and said that we could get a "rattler". I am hoping he meant a rattle and not the reptile. That makes me think of another funny thing he said. I was gathering information on bottle feeding versus breast feeding. As I plan to return to work fairly soon after the baby is born, I was wondering about the practicality of breastfeeding. I asked Kevin on how he would handle the feeding if I happened to be at work. He again thought, and then told me that they make "solutions" that we can feed the baby. It took me a few moments to realize that he meant formula! We both have a lot to learn!

Now honestly, do you think that this baby stands a chance in the looks department??
I talked to my mother-in-law the other day. She told me about the old wives tale that if you have a lot of heartburn during pregnancy, the baby will have a lot of hair. As I am about to buy some stock in the company that makes TUMS or ROLAIDS, I guess this baby will have a full head of hair. Judging from the above pictures though, I am not sure where it will come from.
