Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a very rambunctious, very spoiled dog to accept a newborn into his home? I would like to start preparing Bailey for the upcoming changes before her arrival. The other night Kevin and I were watching television and here came Bailey galloping out of the next room. We noticed that he had something in his mouth...that something being a baby sock! He was tossing it in the air and catching it like it was the best toy around. We got it away from him and I went to inspect the nursery for further evidence of his presence. There were baby socks spread all over the floor. I firmly told him "NO!" but I don't think it's going to do the trick.

It's been a busy week. I went to my 32 week OB/GYN appointment and things are progressing well. The baby continues to be very active. The doctor said that she was head down at that time but that she wouldn't necessarily settle into that position until closer to 36 weeks. That was all for two more weeks.
We have been working on getting the nursery complete. It is really looking cute. It is a very peaceful room and I just love to sit in the rocking chair and meditate in there. We picked out a high-tech mobile that plays five songs and lights up the ceiling with stars and moons. It almost put Kevin to sleep the other afternoon.
Time is getting close and I am getting nervous. What do I know about babies? Being the youngest, not a whole lot! That's okay, we'll take one day at a time and learn as we go. We'll be "old pro's" before we know it!

Today we went to the Childbirth in a Day class that we had signed up for One of my co-workers was also scheduled for the class and I had previously told Kevin that her and her husband would be there. When we entered the hospital looby at 7:45 am, my co-worker was standing there. I greeted her and she told me that her husband was in the bathroom. Kevin missed this exchange and proceeded to sit down by this older, very hairy, overweight man who just happened to be sitting there. He thought this was her husband and he starts attempting to make conversation with the man, who does not answer. I pull Kevin up and get him into the elevators where I let him know that that was NOT her husband. He started laughing which got me to laughing so hard that I peed my pants. Yes, right there on the elevator, I peed my pants. By the way, this isn't something that I do often, it is just another one of the joys of pregnancy. There was nothing for me to do but go on into the class with my coat covering my wet bottom half.
The day did get better after that. We watched some births on video, took a tour of the birthing center, practiced our relaxation and breathing and then called it a day. We came home armed with pamphlets and lots and lots of free samples. The class was really informative and the eight hours really went fast.
We are now down to eight weeks and the class today reminded me of all the things I have yet to do...finish the nursery, go to my shower, finish purchasing baby stuff, find a pediatrician, and fnd a daycare. Not to mention, working overtime to get ahead before I take my maternity leave from work. Whew! It makes me tired just thinking about it.

Note to Daddy Kevin...
I realize that we agreed not to exchange gifts for Valentine's Day, however, the baby does expect a gift. Some ideas of what she may like...chocolate-covered strawberries, roses, and you can never go wrong with jewelry. Just thought you should know.
Love, Heather

I married Kevin without having met one person from his family. Suffice to say that we had a short courtship and an even shorter engagement before eloping last April. A family is very imporant to me, was anxious and nervous to meet his. I can telll you, I got lucky. Kevin's family is warm and loving and have made me feel welcome from the first time we met.
Kevin and I went to Tulsa this weekend to spend the weekend visiting with his mom, stepfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, and cousin. We had a wonderful time despite the blizzard conditions yesterday as we left Tulsa. Thank you to everyone for their hospitality.
Saturday evening, we all went to a cousin's for dinner. Twelve of us sat around the dinner table, engaged in conversation. Someone asked us how much longer before the baby came. Usually these questions are my domain but before I could answer, Kevin spoke up and said "64 days!" I was so proud of him...I guess he does listen to me sometimes.

What is it about being pregnant that makes a person so accessible to the general public? I am shy and reserved and don't mind fading into the background. I am an observer by nature but this basketball in my belly has made that hard to do. People look, smile and invariably comment on my shape. They ask the same questions, "when are you due?" followed by "boy or girl?" At the mall last weekend, the pretzel guy came up out of the blue and gave me a cherry slushie saying it was "for baby". Do I look like I need a cherry slushie?? OH well, Kevin enjoyed it. I guess this is the pregnant woman's equivalent of someone buying you a drink at a bar??
I went to the OB/GYN yesterday for my now twice-monthly appointment. Everything is proceeding right along.

We are thirty weeks pregnant today...three-fourth's of the way there. My body hurts most of the time now, my lower back and hip joints are fighting over who can hurt the worst. But it will all be worth it when we hold our little baby. Just be sure to remind me of that when I have gone days without any real sleep and she alternates between crying, eating and dirtying her diapers.
I stayed up late tonight and posted the pictures from working on the nursery. You can check them out by using the link to the left. Let us know what you think. The nursery is still a work in progress and I will post more pictures as we go. I am relieved that most of the physical labor is out of the way and the fun part of decorating is all that we have left.
We are doing the room in pale yellow and blue with Cow Jumped Over the Moon decorations. I didn't know it, but Grandma Christy told me that was what Kevin's nursery was done in as well. The yellow is a little brighter than we planned but it really is cheerful and sunny in there.
A special thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Critz for all their help on Sunday.

I hate it when the weekend is gone but you feel like you didn't have a break at all. We worked on the house all weekend. We got a lot accomplished but boy am I tired. I mean, I am really, reallly tired. So tired that I will probably have to call in to work tomorrow to recover from today.
The nursery is well on its way to being a reality. I took lots of pictures of the work in progress and promise to post them soon. I am just too tired tonight!
